چکیده
Abstract This study examines the long-term change in threat of landfalling tropical cyclones (TCs) East Asia over period 1975–2020 with a focus on rapidly intensifying (RI) TCs. The increase annual number RI-TCs western North Pacific and northwestward shift their genesis location lead to an increasing trend along coast Asia. power dissipation index (PDI), measure destructive potential at landfall, also shows significant due increases frequency mean landfall intensity RI-TCs. is related higher lifetime maximum (LMI) LMI being closer coast. PDI mainly associated TCs southern (the Philippines, South China, Vietnam) northern parts (Japan Korean Peninsula) changes vertical wind shear TC heat potential. former leads favorable environments for intensification, resulting genesis, RI, locations latter provides more energy from ocean its chances undergo RI.

Large-Scale Characteristics of Rapidly Intensifying Tropical Cyclones in the North Atlantic Basin
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) and Statistical Hurricane Intensity Prediction Scheme (SHIPS) databases are employed to examine the large-scale characteristics of rapidly intensifying Atlantic basin tropical cyclones. In this study, rapid intensification (RI) is defined as approximately the 95th percentile of over-water 24-h intensity changes of Atlantic basin tropical cyclones that develop...
متن کاملEffects Of Cumulus Convection On Rapidly Intensifying Cyclones
Our objectives are a) To describe the detailed structure of the air flow in a mature hurricane, b) To understand the vertical force balance in the eye and the eyewall, c) To investigate the presence of supergradient flow in hurricanes and the underlying processes, d) To study the surface wind structures during landfall, e) To investigate the transformation of a cold-core continental mesovortex ...
متن کاملOn the Applicability of Linear, Axisymmetric Dynamics in Intensifying and Mature Tropical Cyclones
The applicability of linearized axisymmetric dynamics to the intensification and structure change of tropical cyclones is investigated. The study is motivated by recent work that presented axisymmetric solutions to the linearized, non-hydrostatic, vortex-anelastic equations of motion (the so-called 3DVPAS model). The work called into question the importance of a recently proposed nonlinear, sys...
متن کاملGrowing typhoon influence on east Asia
[1] Numerical model studies have suggested that the ongoing global climate change will likely affect tropical cyclone activity. Since the global warming has been underway, it is meaningful to ask: Are there evidences of observed changes in tropical cyclone activity? Using besttrack data from 1965 to 2003, we show for the first time that over the past four decades the two prevailing typhoon trac...
متن کاملClouds in Tropical Cyclones
Clouds within the inner regions of tropical cyclones are unlike those anywhere else in the atmosphere. Convective clouds contributing to cyclogenesis have rotational and deep intense updrafts but tend to have relatively weak downdrafts. Within the eyes of mature tropical cyclones, stratus clouds top a boundary layer capped by subsidence. An outward-sloping eyewall cloud is controlled by adjustm...
